| | | Celebrations, Community & Giving Back with Hillel! | | | | | |
| | Dear ##Informal Name##, Over these past few weeks, many of us have experienced the news coming out of Israel in deeply personal and meaningful ways. It is hard to put into the words the whirlwind and breadth of emotions we are all having during these challenging times. In the face of this pain, Syracuse Hillel remains steadfast in its commitment to support our students and to help them continue to navigate their unique experiences. If you know of a student who needs a space to find comfort, an ear to listen or simply take a moment for themselves in solitude, our doors—and our arms—are always open. Even as we grieve and grapple with the world around us, we are committed to fostering the sense of connection and resilience that has long defined our community. We recognize more than ever the importance of strengthening the programs and spaces that provide support, meaning, and belonging for our students and always welcome your support and partnership in this endeavor. Looking ahead, we also find hope in our traditions. While Purim falls during Spring Break, we will still take the time to bake and share hamantaschen, and soon, we will gather for Passover, retelling our story of resilience and redemption. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if a student in your life needs support. We are here for them, always. With Gratitude, Jillian Juni Syracuse Hillel | | | | | |

| | On Wednesday, February 12, Syracuse Hillel partnered with Jewish Acorns, SUNY-ESF’s Jewish student group and Adamah, the largest Jewish environmental organization in North America to celebrate Tu B’Shevat, the Jewish New Year for the Trees, with a special Tu B’Shevat Seder in the Schine Student Center. Students gathered to enjoy a meaningful and interactive evening, tasting a variety of new fruits, reflecting on our connection to the environment, and engaging in a hands-on planting activity. In the spirit of sustainability and growth, participants planted small trees and added a creative touch by painting their pots, making each one unique. The Seder highlighted themes of renewal, responsibility, and appreciation for the natural world. This event was a wonderful opportunity for students to connect with Jewish traditions while embracing environmental stewardship. We are grateful to everyone who joined us in celebrating, and we look forward to more programs that bring our community together in meaningful and impactful ways! | | | | | |

| | With a variety of ingredients to choose from, students had the chance to create their own custom pasta dish, experimenting with different sauces, toppings, and flavors. This delicious and relaxing evening was inspired by the success of our “Make Your Own Pizza” event in the fall. Beyond the food, the event provided a much-needed break from the semester’s demands, giving students time to unwind, connect, and enjoy great company in a warm and welcoming space. Whether mastering a new recipe or simply savoring a homemade meal, everyone left feeling nourished! | | | | | |

| | This February, Syracuse Hillel proudly participated in the Jewish Federation’s Winter Food Drive to support those in need within our community. Students and community members came together to sort and process canned goods, boxed items, and other essential pantry staples, ensuring that local families have access to nourishing meals during the winter months. Thanks to the efforts of our students, we’re able to make a meaningful impact in our community. This event embraced the values of tikkun olam (repairing the world) and demonstrated the power of coming together to support others. | | | | | |

| | We’re excited to share some incredible news: Syracuse Hillel was honored with an Excellence Award at the 2024 Hillel International Global Assembly (HIGA) in Boston! This award recognizes FreshFest, our signature pre-orientation program, for its extraordinary impact on Jewish students transitioning to college life. FreshFest 2024 made history with over 350 participants—the largest turnout of any Hillel—helping incoming students build friendships, explore their Jewish identity, and feel at home even before their first day of classes. This honor is a testament to the hard work and passion of our staff, students, and university partners who make FreshFest such a success year after year. We are deeply grateful to the parents, alumni, donors, and community members whose support ensures Syracuse Hillel continues to enrich Jewish student life. Together, we are shaping the next generation of Jewish leaders and building a stronger, more connected community. We can’t wait for FreshFest 2025! If you know of an incoming first-year interested in joining us for the festivities, please send them this interest form so they can stay up to date with Syracuse Hillel!
