Career Services Staff Update

The following changes happened in Career Services while you were on break:  We wished Jennifer Fazio farewell as she has accepted a new position at SUNY ESF and we welcomed Mary Kay Montville who will fill in until we find a permanent replacement for Jennifer.  Mary Kay is located in Link 121 and you can sign up for appointments with her in OrangeLink just as you did with Jennifer.

Save the Date!  Spring E&CS Career Fair: Wed. 1/31/18, 3-7pm, Goldstein Auditorium (Schine Student Center)

Please submit your updated resume to our new resume tool, VMock, for the E&CS Resume Book no later than Monday, January 29th at 5pm.  All resumes must obtain a score between 70-75% in order to be included in the resume book that gets distributed to all employers at the E&CS Career Fair.  ** Please note, you should still bring multiple copies of your resume with you to the Fair.

Apply Now for Invent@SU Summer 2018

This summer, Invent@SU returns to transform undergrads into inventors as they design, prototype, and pitch original devices. The program is open to all Syracuse undergraduate students.  Invent@SU, supported by Bill and Penny Allyn, follows a proven method of developing students’ abilities to innovate and communicate. Students learn about design, ideation, and intellectual property, then build and refine their very own invention with weekly feedback from alumni and industry leaders.  Click here for more information.

Does Stress get in the way of your Success?

The SU Counseling Center will be offering a 6-session workshop on mindfulness, meditation, and stress management this semester – Tuesdays 4:30-5:45pm starting in February.  Students interested in this workshop need to contact the Counseling Center at 315-443-4715 by February 9th to pre-register.  Class size is limited.  For questions, contact Susan Pasco PhD, LCSW-R.

CNY FIRST Robotics Regional Competition: 3/1/18-3/4/18

Volunteers are needed for the 2018 Central New York FIRST™ Robotics Competition (FRC). Volunteer roles include referees, game announcers, traffic controllers, registration table managers, judge assistants, robot inspectors, field resetting, and more. See the complete list of volunteer roles and descriptions here. Volunteers are needed March 1-4, and volunteers are asked to assist for a minimum of one full day. Tip of the Week

It may only be the first week of classes, but the time to think about studying is NOW!  Get into a routine early, before your projects and exams creep up on you.  Students should be spending 2-3 hours for every credit hour they are enrolled in outside of class.  So, if a class is 3-credits, you should be spending at least 6-9 hours devoted to that class over the course of the week.  This time can be spent doing homework and practice problems, reading the textbook, reviewing notes, visiting TA or professor office hours… anything that puts you on a path toward success in the course.  If you want assistance setting up a routine for the semester, please schedule an appointment with Sarah Mack or Anna Kramer on Orange Success.
