News for our SU family in Asia

Dear friends,

Syracuse University is synonymous with excellence—excellence in teaching, research, and cultivating a lifelong love of learning. In this edition of Syracuse University Update, you’ll see highlights in each of these areas:

  • Teaching Professor Yilin Hou G’98, G’02, of the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, is both an alumnus and a faculty member. He shares why he faithfully supports his alma mater and the impact it has on students.
  • Research A research team from the College of Engineering and Computer Science is building and finding business applications for a platform to collect, aggregate, and manage data gathered by drones.
  • Continued learning SU alumni in Beijing hosted a start-up salon in December, highlighting four entrepreneurs who shared their journey of hard work and creativity.

Faculty Highlight

 

Professor Yilin Hou

Yilin Hou ’98 M.A., ’02 Ph.D.

A native of China, Professor Yilin Hou G’98, G’02, who holds master’s and doctoral degrees from the Maxwell School, helps to build up Syracuse University in his work and with his financial gifts. “The Maxwell School is at the top in my field,” he says. “Part of my role is to help make Maxwell even stronger, to sustain its status as an academic stronghold.”

Alumni leaders in Beijing hosted a discussion with four entrepreneurs—Edward Liu G’90 (computer science), Jackie You, Limingzhu Zhang G’16 (art photography), and Phoebe Sidan Feng ’16 (psychology). All the panelists shared how the Syracuse experience propelled them toward success in their ventures.
