| Dear friends, Syracuse University is synonymous with excellence—excellence in teaching, research, and cultivating a lifelong love of learning. In this edition of Syracuse University Update, you’ll see highlights in each of these areas: - Teaching Professor Yilin Hou G’98, G’02, of the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, is both an alumnus and a faculty member. He shares why he faithfully supports his alma mater and the impact it has on students.
- Research A research team from the College of Engineering and Computer Science is building and finding business applications for a platform to collect, aggregate, and manage data gathered by drones.
- Continued learning SU alumni in Beijing hosted a start-up salon in December, highlighting four entrepreneurs who shared their journey of hard work and creativity.

| | |  | | A native of China, Professor Yilin Hou G’98, G’02, who holds master’s and doctoral degrees from the Maxwell School, helps to build up Syracuse University in his work and with his financial gifts. “The Maxwell School is at the top in my field,” he says. “Part of my role is to help make Maxwell even stronger, to sustain its status as an academic stronghold.”
