Funding Opportunities

For Students:

SIAM Student Paper Prize

  • Feb 15; The Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) Student Paper Prizes are awarded every year to the student author(s) of the most outstanding paper(s) submitted to the SIAM Student Paper Competition. This award is based solely on the merit and content of the student’s contribution to the submitted paper. The purpose of the Student Paper Prizes is to recognize outstanding scholarship by students in applied mathematics or computing.

Kenneth G. Hancock Memorial Student Award in Green Chemistry

  • Feb 16; The award provides national recognition and honor for outstanding student contributions to furthering the goals of green chemistry through research and/or studies. This includes but is not limited to the research, development, and implementation of fundamental and innovative chemical technologies that incorporate the principles of green chemistry into chemical design, manufacture, and use, and that have the potential to be utilized in achieving national pollution prevention goals.

STARTS Prize (Austrian Broadcast Company)

  • Mar 2; The artistic practice of creative exploration and experimental appropriation of new technologies has a wide reaching potential to contribute to the development of new products and new economic, social and business models. Accordingly, the STARTS Prize focuses on artistic works that influence or change the way we look at technology, and on innovative forms of collaboration between the ICT sector and the world of art and culture.

BraunPrize (Braun GmBH)

  • Mar 20; The BraunPrize 2018 challenges creative minds to envision design concepts that matter. Braun wants to encourage innovation that can be virtual or physical, scientific or technical, or that changes our behavior for the better. The product concepts submitted should represent innovations in design, technology, sustainability and user experiences.

For Faculty:

Fluid Dynamics and Particulate and Multiphase Processes Research at the International Space Station to Benefit Life on Earth (NSF)

  • Mar 5;The Division of Chemical, Bioengineering and Environmental Transport (CBET) in the Engineering Directorate of the National Science Foundation (NSF) is partnering with The Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS) to solicit research projects in the general field of fluid dynamics and particulate and multiphase processes that can utilize the International Space Station (ISS) National Lab to conduct research that will benefit life on Earth.

Centers for Chemical Innovation (NSF)

  • Mar 6; The Centers for Chemical Innovation (CCI) Program supports research centers focused on major, long-term fundamental chemical research challenges. CCIs that address these challenges will produce transformative research, lead to innovation, and attract broad scientific and public interest. CCIs are agile structures that can respond rapidly to emerging opportunities through enhanced collaborations. CCIs integrate research, innovation, education, broadening participation, and informal science communication.

Critical Resilient Interdependent Infrastructure Systems and Processes (NSF)

  • Mar 7; This solicitation calls for integrated research on Interdependent Critical Infrastructures (ICIs) by interdisciplinary teams of engineers and social, behavioral, and economic scientists. Research funded through this program is expected to provide the momentum to create a new science of integrative designs in ICIs, to stimulate economic growth, and to inform how communities can engage diverse resources to improve the quality of life for their inhabitants.

Belmont Forum Joint Initiative with BiodivERsA (NSF)

  • Mar 9; The aim of this call is to promote innovative research for more informed decision-making by developing scenarios of biodiversity change and its associated ecosystem services, resulting from the complex interaction of socio-economic and global environmental trends.
  • This call is contributing to international research programs, assessment bodies, and multi-lateral environmental agreements.

Innovative Technology Development to Enhance Fossil Power System Operability, Reliability, and Economic Performance (DOE)

  • Apr 5; The goal of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to seek innovative research and development projects to improve the performance and cost of fossil energy technologies. This FOA focuses on two Areas of Interest (AOI): 1) AOI 1: Sensors & Controls Technology Development for Cybersecure Fossil Power, and AOI 2: Computational Tools to Support Advanced Manufacturing of Fossil Energy Technologies

Verification of the Origins of Rotation in Tornadoes Experiment in the Southeast U. S., and Infrasound Detection of Tornadoes (DOC)

  • Apr 12; This research funding opportunity is being jointly issued by the NOAA OAR Office and Weather and Air Quality (OWAQ) and the National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL). It seeks to obtain new knowledge of the meteorological and infrasound aspects of tornadoes in the southeastern United States (U. S.) and the social and behavioral aspects of the public response to tornado forecasts and tornado events. This new knowledge will improve our ability to understand, forecast and warn the public of tornadoes and elicit appropriate responses to mitigate damage, injuries, and loss of life.

US-EU Internet Core

  • May 07; The Division of Computer and Network Systems (CNS) within the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) supports research and education activities that seek to develop a better understanding of the fundamental properties of computer and network systems. The Networking Technology and Systems (NeTS) program in the CNS division supports transformative research on fundamental scientific and technological advances leading to the development of Next Generation Internet (NGI) and Advanced Wireless Networking (AWN) systems and technologies.
