Dear College of Law Alumni, I’m pleased to share that a few weeks ago my wife Marina and I completed the sale of our house in Cleveland and she has now joined me in Syracuse. Later this summer, my family will move into our newly built home in Fayetteville, where we look forward to meeting all of our neighbors and settling into the Syracuse community. Your monthly Dean’s Dispatch will return in September for another academic year that promises to be productive and fulfilling, and before we know it, we’ll all be cheering on the Syracuse Orange football team and enjoying the fall leaves. In this summer issue, you’ll find the latest, as my first year as your Dean comes to a close and we prepare for Convocation and a new crop of students arrive to engage in the study of law. In the meantime, enjoy your summer! New Director of Alumni Relations A major priority of my deanship is to be more deeply engaging you, our alumni, with the mission and work of the College of Law. To this end, I am pleased to welcome Kristen Duggleby as the College of Law’s new Director of Alumni Relations. Kristen comes to us from the Whitman School, and she’s responsible for ensuring we develop and maintain strong relationships and partnerships with you. There will be many opportunities for you to meet Kristen in the coming months. She will reach out to you and acquaint herself with the many talented and dedicated graduates of the College of Law. I hope you will feel free to share with her any suggestions for how the College can do better with connecting you to your alma mater. To get involved with the College of Law, call or email Kristen at 315-443-9532, or klduggle@law.syr.edu. Leadership Changes and Staff Updates As Kristen settles into her new role in the Office of Advancement and External Affairs, several of her colleagues are settling into their new roles at the College of Law. As of July 1, I have appointed Professor Keith Bybee Vice Dean of the College. In this important role, Keith will immediately assume oversight of the College’s academic affairs while continuing his teaching and scholarship. His leadership will support critical aspects of the College of Law’s operations, including Student Affairs, our Centers, Clinics, and the library. We must continue to align our academic programming with the needs of the legal marketplace and opportunities ahead, and Keith’s eye for innovation in the classroom and dedication to the student experience, combined with his passion for the law and his forward thinking mindset, make him an ideal person for this role. Nick Wallace will join the College of Law in July as our new Assistant Dean for Enrollment Management. Nick comes to us from Rutgers Law and University of Minnesota Law School, where he received his J.D., with over a decade of law school admissions experience. He will oversee and manage the College of Law’s admissions and financial aid team and lead our efforts to recruit and retain the best law students. Nick is a member of the Law School Admissions Council’s Board of Trustees. Andrew Horsfall L’10 has been promoted to Assistant Dean of International Programs. This appointment is the natural evolution of the critical role Andrew has played in the College of Law’s LL.M. program. Under his tenure as Executive Director of International Programs and Initiatives and before that as Assistant Director of the LL.M. Program, Andrew led the expansion of the program into a highly successful offering that attracts first-rate legal scholars from around the world – 20 different countries this year alone. In his new role, he will lead the growth of our international initiatives as we create a menu of options for advancing legal education for our students, globally. Kim Wolf Price L’03 will transition from Career Services to become Executive Director of Externships. The success of our externship programs in CNY, Washington D.C., and London, and their powerful impact on our students have led to greater demand for these first-hand experiential learning opportunities. To best serve our students and prepare them for their legal careers, Kim will lead efforts to strengthen our externship programs in existing locations and oversee expansion efforts into to new cities, including New York City, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. In her new capacity, Kim will work closely with Faculty Externship Director Terry Turnipseed. Please contact Kim at kwprice@law.syr.edu if you are interested in exploring an externship at your organization. |
