Funding Opportunities

For Faculty:

Expeditions in Computing (NSF)

  • Apr 25; The far-reaching impact and rate of innovation in the computer and information science and engineering fields has been remarkable, generating economic prosperity and enhancing the quality of life for people throughout the world. In planning Expeditions projects, investigators are encouraged to come together within or across departments or institutions to combine their creative talents in the identification of compelling, transformative research agendas that promise disruptive innovations in computer and information science and engineering for many years to come.

NSF-CBMS Regional Research Conferences in the Mathematical Sciences (NSF)

  • Apr 27; The NSF-CBMS Regional Research Conferences in the Mathematical Sciences are a series of five-day conferences each of which features a distinguished lecturer delivering ten lectures on a topic of important current research in one sharply focused area of the mathematical sciences. CBMS refers to the Conference Board of the Mathematical Sciences which publicizes the conferences and administers the resulting publications.

Workshops on the Use of Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development

  • Jun 25; The over-arching goal of this NIDA/NIMH R25 program is to support educational activities that complement and/or enhance the training of a workforce to meet the nation’s biomedical, behavioral and clinical research needs in the use of ABCD data.
  • To accomplish the stated over-arching goal, this FOA will support creative educational activities with a primary focus on courses for skills development, particularly short-term workshops that will allow participants to explore the hands-on use of ABCD data, through cooperative or competitive approaches.

Computer and Information Science and Engineering Research Initiation Initiative (NSF)

  • Aug 8; With the goal of encouraging research independence immediately upon obtaining one’s first academic position after receipt of the PhD, the Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) will award grants to initiate the course of one’s independent research.

Multidisciplinary Research Program of the University Research Initiative(DoD)

  • Oct 16; The MURI program supports basic research in science and engineering at U.S. institutions of higher education (hereafter referred to as “universities”) that is of potential interest to DoD. The program is focused on multidisciplinary research efforts where more than one traditional discipline interacts to provide rapid advances in scientific areas of interest to the DoD. It includes all scientific study and experimentation directed toward increasing fundamental knowledge and understanding in those fields of the physical, engineering, environmental, and life sciences related to long-term national security needs.

National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency Academic Research Program(DoD)

  • Dec 31; The NGA mission is to provide timely, relevant, and accurate geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) in support of national security objectives. GEOINT consists of imagery, imagery intelligence, and geospatial information. The NGA Academic Research Program (NARP) is focused on innovative, far-reaching basic and applied research in science, technology, engineering and mathematics having the potential to advance the GEOINT mission.

Dear Colleague Letter: Disrupting Operations of Illicit Supply Networks

  • Illicit supply networks are unencumbered by national boundaries and fuel transnational criminal organizations, with grave consequences for national and international security.
  • With this Dear Colleague Letter (DCL), the National Science Foundation (NSF) invites proposals to the Operations Engineering program for EArly-concept Grants for Exploratory Research (EAGER) into operational methods to detect, disrupt and disable illicit supply networks.
  • Projects must focus on fundamental research that advances the scientific understanding of the operations of illicit supply networks and methods for their disruption.

Dear Colleague Letter: Growing Convergence Research (NSF)

  • This Dear Colleague Letter (DCL) seeks to identify potential future research areas that go beyond NSF’s Big Ideas, require a convergence approach, cross internal and/or external organizational and disciplinary boundaries, and advance the progress of science as articulated in NSF’s mission. NSF encourages the submission of prospectuses to identify these new areas and specific projects within them.
  • The research areas and proposed projects must reflect the characteristics of convergence outlined here.

For Students:

Lemelson Foundation

  • Apr 4; With the BMEidea competition, the nation’s leading competition for biomedical and bioengineering students, we challenge students to pioneer a health-related technology that addresses a real clinical need.

J. DeMichele Scholarship

  • Apr 15; The purpose of this award is to honor and memorialize the generous spirit of Dick DeMichele by providing financial assistance to students traveling to present papers at an IMAC.

American Geophysical Union (AGU): Horton (Hydrology) Research Grant

  • Apr 15; In 1982, the Hydrology Section of AGU was granted access to a portion of the income of the Robert E. Horton Fund for Hydrologic Research. This permitted the initiation of the Horton Research Grant for Ph.D. students, with a purpose to promote excellence through encouragement of the next generation of professionals in the hydrological sciences.

Fly Your Ideas Competition: Airbus

  • Nov 25; Fly Your Ideas is a biennial competition which provides a unique opportunity for students to work together in diverse teams to stretch their imaginations and tackle the most important challenges facing the aviation industry. It’s a chance for students to apply their classroom learning and research to real-world challenges to envision solutions for the sustainable aviation industry of the future.

Academic Scholarship: Force and Motion Foundation

  • Dec 15; The scholarship will be granted for research related to multi-axis force measurement and testing in the following categories: Medical Robotics, Diagnostic Equipment, Diagnostic Application, Medical Training, Rehabilitation, and Surgical Applications.

Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship for Service Program: American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE)

  • Dec 31; The Science, Mathematics And Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship for Service Program is an opportunity for students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines to receive a full scholarship and be gainfully employed by the Department of Defense (DoD) upon degree completion.
