Awards and Honors

Plansky Hoang, Ph.D. student, has been awarded the prestigious and competitive Predoctoral Fellowship from the America Heart Association (AHA). The AHA Predoctoral Fellowship aims to enhance the integrated research and clinical training of promising students who are matriculated in pre-doctoral programs and have a passion for improving global cardiovascular health. Plansky’s project “Engineering cardiac organoids for Embryotoxicity screening” combines biomaterial-based cell patterning and hiPSC technology to generate in vitro 3D micro-heart models that represent the early developing heart.

Congratulations, Plansky!

Dr. Jian Tang will be elevated to IEEE Fellow beginning in January 2019. Each year, following a rigorous evaluation procedure, the IEEE Fellow Committee recommends a select group of recipients for elevation to IEEE Fellow. Less than 0.1% of voting members are selected annually for this member grade elevation.

Congratulations, Dr. Jian Tang!

All interested Teaching Assistants are encouraged to attend an informational meeting to learn more about this paid position (additional sessions will be held in January). Current and former Teaching Mentors will be on hand to discuss the position and answer your questions. *Application forms will only be available at these info sessions.* We are especially interested in attracting applicants with TA experience in underrepresented fields such as STEM, the Arts, and Architecture. Applications will be accepted through Friday, February 8, 2019. No registration is necessary.

Developing Responsible Professionals: Creativity and Wisdom Trump Knowledge and IQ with Dr. Robert Sternberg, Cornell University

Friday, November 30, 1:30-3:00 p.m. Falk College 200 (McNaughton Hall)

Robert Sternberg is a professor of Human Development at Cornell University. He has been one of the most influential researchers in the field of human intelligence. His work has been instrumental in expanding models of intelligence beyond traditional conceptions of psychometric views of intelligence. In this talk, he will discuss some of his work that incorporates conceptions of creativity and wisdom as essential components of human flourishing and describe how these attributes can be developed in university contexts.
