Funding Opportunities

For Students:

Grand Rapids Community Foundation (GRCF) scholarships

  • Apr 1; In addition to general application scholarships, several specific scholarships (including the Meijer Scholarship) require a separate application. A large number of Foundation scholarships can be used at any college or university in the US.

Pi Lambda Theta Student Support Scholarships

  • Apr 2;These scholarships are awarded to assist students with tuition and books and are available to part-time as well as full-time students.
  • Students should be members of pi lambda theta for application.

Hudswell International Research Scholarship

  • Apr 5;The Hudswell International Research Scholarship is offered to encourage excellence in engineering and technology research, with a preference for electrical, electronic or manufacturing engineering.
  • Candidates must be members of IET for a year before applying for the scholarship.

American Indian College Fund Scholarships

  • May 31; These scholarships are funded through partnerships with corporate and private donors and are available to American Indian/Alaska Native students attending public and private colleges and universities and tribal colleges. The Full Circle scholarships are administered by the American Indian College Fund and are generally based upon merit or demonstrated financial need.

Communications, Circuits, and Sensing-Systems (NSF)

  • Apr 2; The Communications, Circuits, and Sensing-Systems (CCSS) Program supports innovative research in circuit and system hardware and signal processing techniques.
  • The goal is to create new complex and hybrid systems ranging from nano- to macro-scale with innovative engineering principles and solutions for a variety of applications including but not limited to healthcare, medicine, environmental and biological monitoring, communications, disaster mitigation, homeland security, intelligent transportation, manufacturing, energy, and smart buildings.

Energy, Power, Control, and Networks (NSF)

  • Apr 2; The Energy, Power, Control, and Networks (EPCN) Program supports innovative research in modeling, optimization, learning, adaptation, and control of networked multi-agent systems, higher-level decision making, and dynamic resource allocation, as well as risk management in the presence of uncertainty, sub-system failures, and stochastic disturbances.
  • EPCN’s goal is to encourage research on emerging technologies and applications including energy, transportation, robotics, and biomedical devices & systems.

Electronics, Photonics and Magnetic Devices (NSF)

  • Apr 2; The Electronics, Photonics and Magnetic Devices (EPMD) Program supports innovative research on novel devices based on the principles of electronics, optics and photonics, optoelectronics, magnetics, opto- and electromechanics, electromagnetics, and related physical phenomena.
  • EPMD’s goal is to advance the frontiers of micro-, nano- and quantum-based devices operating within the electromagnetic spectrum and contributing to a broad range of application domains including information and communications, imaging and sensing, healthcare, Internet of Things, energy, infrastructure, and manufacturing.

Methods Development in Natural Products Chemistry (DOA)

  • Apr 6; This FOA is intended to help move useful technologies into the commercial marketplace by inviting STTR grant applications from small businesses for further development of such technologies that are relevant to the missions of the sponsoring NIH institutes and centers. The supported research and development will likely include making the tools more robust and easy to use. NCCIH encourages new investigators as well as those investigators who are previous recipients and have shown significant progress in moving useful technologies into the commercial marketplace.

Lillian Gilbreth Postdoctoral Fellowships available to innovative, interdisciplinary researchers with recent PhD’s in engineering or related sciences

  • Apr 8; The goal of the Lillian Gilbreth Postdoctoral Fellowship Program at Purdue Engineering is to attract and prepare outstanding individuals with recently awarded PhDs for a career in engineering academia through interdisciplinary research, training, and professional development.

Artificial Intelligence Technology Applied Research and Development for Law Enforcement Applications (DOJ)

Apr 30; The ultimate goal of this solicitation is twofold:

  • To support innovative early-stage research relevant to criminal justice application by introducing the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence research community to criminal justice challenges.
  • To support development of innovative, new AI-based tools for criminal justice agencies – particularly at the State and local level.

Dear Colleague Letter: Signals in the Soil (NSF)

  • This DCL encourages research concepts that integrate fundamental science and engineering knowledge in different disciplines with the aim of developing a next generation of sensor systems capable of in situ measurement of dynamic soil biological, physical, and chemical variables over time and space in managed and unmanaged soils.
  • If successful, these research concepts will enable scientists to advance basic understanding of dynamic processes in soils and provide the underlying science and engineering to enable others to develop new ways of managing soils and natural resources.

Dear Colleague Letter: Stimulating Research Related to Navigating the New Arctic (NNA), One of NSF’s 10 Big Ideas

  • This Dear Colleague Letter (DCL) invites proposals in FY 2018 that will advance NNA research through convergent approaches to emerging scientific, engineering, societal, and education challenges, and builds upon the NNA awards resulting from the FY 2017 DCL on Growing Convergence Research at NSF. A systems-based approach is strongly encouraged, including research that both contributes to, and leverages, large data sets from enhanced observational technology and networks.
