  • Dr. Fardad’s awarded proposal is titled “A Scalable Optimization-Based Framework for Modeling and Analysis of Cascading Failures.”
  • Dr. Hosein’s awarded proposal is titled “Fabrication of Composite Material Structures using Light-Induced Self Writing.”
  • Earlier this year, Dr. Sucheta Soundarajan (EECS) received a Young Investigator award from the US Army Research Office titled, “Intelligent Information Networks: Modeling, Sampling, and Analyzing Adversarial Social Networks”.

  • May 7; The Division of Computer and Network Systems (CNS) within the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) supports research and education activities that seek to develop a better understanding of the fundamental properties of computer and network systems.

Formal Methods in the Field (NSF)

  • May 8; The Formal Methods in the Field (FMitF) program aims to bring together researchers in formal methods with researchers in other areas of computer and information science and engineering to jointly develop rigorous and reproducible methodologies for designing and implementing correct-by-construction systems and applications with provable guarantees.

Cyber-Physical Systems (NSF)

  • May 9; The CPS program aims to develop the core research needed to engineer these complex CPS, some of which may also require dependable, high-confidence, or provable behaviors. Core research areas of the program include control, data analytics, autonomy, design, information management, internet of things (IoT), mixed initiatives including human-in- or on-the-loop, networking, privacy, real-time systems, safety, security, and verification.

Critical Techniques, Technologies and Methodologies for Advancing Foundations and Applications of Big Data Sciences and Engineering  (NSF)

  • May 14; The BIGDATA program seeks novel approaches in computer science, statistics, computational science, and mathematics leading towards the further development of the interdisciplinary field of data science. The program also seeks innovative applications in domain science, including social and behavioral sciences, education, physical sciences, and engineering, where data science and the availability of big data are creating new opportunities for research and insights not previously possible.

Dear Colleague Letter: EQuIP: Engineering Quantum Integrated Platforms for Quantum Communication

  • May 15; This DCL seeks collaborative, multidisciplinary proposals that span quantum device and circuit technology and system-level concepts in the design, analysis, development, and demonstration of integrated quantum communication systems. The proposed approaches are expected to encompass a well-defined integrated system perspective, with performance benchmarking in terms of operational parameters such as communication speed, coherence, memory, and temperature requirements, as well as necessary operational requirements such as electromagnetic frequency, phase, and field strength.

Dear Colleague Letter: Advancing Long-term Reuse of Scientific Data (NSF)

  • May 23; Through this Dear Colleague Letter (DCL), the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Office of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure (OAC) announces its intention to support initial exploratory activities toward the creation of social and technical infrastructure solutions that further NSF’s commitment to public access. These solutions are a means to accelerate the dissemination and use of fundamental research results in the form of data that will advance the frontiers of knowledge and help sustain the Nation’s prosperity well into the future.

Materials and Chemical Sciences Research for Quantum Information Science (DOE)

  • May 24;The Office of Basic Energy Sciences (BES), U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), announces its interest in receiving applications from single investigator or small groups of investigators for support of experimental and theoretical efforts to advance materials and chemical sciences research for quantum information sciences (QIS).

Dear Colleague Letter: Real-Time Learning and Decision-Making in Engineered Systems (NSF)

  • June 1; With this Dear Colleague letter (DCL), the Directorate for Engineering of the National Science Foundation announces its interest in receiving EArly-Concept Grants for Exploratory Research (EAGER) proposals to support research in fundamental theory, algorithms, engineering principles, and applications for real-time learning and decision-making that may lead the way toward safe, reliable, and efficient data-enabled engineering systems.

National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency Academic Research Program (NSF)

  • Dec 31; NGA welcomes all innovative ideas for path-breaking research that may advance the GEOINT mission. GEOINT is the exploitation and analysis of imagery and geospatial information to describe, assess, and visually depict physical features and geographically referenced activities on the Earth. The NGA Academic Research Program (NARP) is focused on innovative, far-reaching basic and applied research in science, technology, engineering and mathematics having the potential to advance the GEOINT mission.

Centers for Chemical Innovation (CCI)

  • Feb 20, 2019; The Centers for Chemical Innovation (CCI) Program supports research centers focused on major, long-term fundamental chemical research challenges. CCIs that address these challenges will produce transformative research, lead to innovation, and attract broad scientific and public interest. CCIs are agile structures that can respond rapidly to emerging opportunities through enhanced collaborations. CCIs integrate research, innovation, education, broadening participation, and informal science communication.

Computer Science for All  (NSF)

  • May 9; This program aims to provide all U.S. students the opportunity to participate in computer science (CS) and computational thinking (CT) education in their schools at the preK-12 levels. With this solicitation, the National Science Foundation (NSF) focuses on researcher-practitioner partnerships (RPPs) that foster the research and development needed to bring CS and CT to all schools.

Unilever Sustainable Living Young Entrepreneurs Awards

  • Jun 30; Unilever is looking for scalable and sustainable products, services or applications that reduce environmental impacts, improve health and well-being or enhance livelihoods through changes in practices or behaviours.

Request for Climate Change or Environmental Proposals (IBM)

Graduate Research Fellowship Program

Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate Fellowship Program

Fellows come from diverse scientific and engineering disciplines but share a common interest in using computing in their research

National Science Foundation Research Traineeship Program (NSF)

  • Feb 06, 2019; The NSF Research Traineeship (NRT) program is designed to encourage the development and implementation of bold, new, and potentially transformative models for STEM graduate education training. The program is dedicated to effective training of STEM graduate students in high priority interdisciplinary research areas, through the use of a comprehensive traineeship model that is innovative, evidence-based, and aligned with changing workforce and research needs.
