Renewable Strategy Engineering Prize

• March 31; the Renewable Strategy Engineering Prize is now open. The winner of this annual competition will be selected from the best individual project in a mechanical engineering topic related to offshore renewable energy.

Bell Labs Prize

• April 25; the Bell Labs Prize is a competition for innovators from participating countries around the globe that seeks to recognize proposals that ‘change the game’ in the field of information and communications technologies by a factor of 10, and provides selected innovators the unique opportunity to collaborate with Bell Labs researchers to help realize their vision.

BMES Awards

• May 15; annually, BMES recognizes individuals for their accomplishments, significant contributions and service to the Society and the field of biomedical engineering.

Impact of the Use of Glucose Monitoring and Control Technologies on Health Outcomes and Quality of Life in Older Adults with Type 1 Diabetes (NIH)

• April 26; this FOA encourages applications from institutions/organizations proposing clinical studies of the use of current and emerging technologies for monitoring of blood glucose and insulin administration in older adults.
• Older adults may have increased vulnerability to hypoglycemia, cognitive impairment and/or multiple co-morbidities which may affect the risks and benefits of these technologies in this population. This research is intended to improve health, glucose control and quality of life of older patients with type 1 diabetes.

Development of New Technologies and Bioengineering Solutions for the Advancement of Cell Replacement Therapies for Type 1 Diabetes (NIH)

• April 26; this FOA encourages applications from institutions/organizations proposing original research addressing barriers that limit progress toward effective cell replacement therapies for type 1 diabetes (T1D). The purpose is to support research leading to the development and testing of novel and supportive technologies for the improvement of cell replacement interventions using novel biomaterials and devices for T1D treatment.

NSF/VMware Partnership on Edge Computing Data Infrastructure (NSF)

• May 22; this solicitation seeks to advance the state of the art in end-to-end networked systems architecture that includes edge infrastructures. The central challenge is to design and develop data-centric edge architectures, programming paradigms, runtime environments, and data sharing frameworks that will enable compelling new applications and fully realize the opportunity of big data in tomorrow’s mobile and IoT device environments.

Smart and Connected Health (NSF)

• May 22; the purpose of this interagency program solicitation is to support the development of technologies, analytics and models supporting next generation health and medical research through high-risk, high-reward advances in computer and information science, engineering and technology, behavior and cognition. Collaborations between academic, industry, and other organizations are strongly encouraged to establish better linkages between fundamental science, medicine and healthcare practice and technology development, deployment and use.
