The Engineering Academic Challenge

Thursday, September 20th: 9:00am-10:00am, Room 020, Crouse Hinds Hall

                                          11:00am-12:00pm, Room 373, Link Hall

                                           2:30pm-3:30pm, Room 373, Link Hall

Get Connected With Fellow Engineers. Get Recognized and Win (Amazon gift cards). The Engineering Academic Challenge (EAC) is an international event for engineering students of all levels. To compete in the challenge, students register, then log in each week to complete 5 questions for a chance to win prizes. The challenge questions require students to use engineering research tools such as Knovel and Engineering Village, available via SU Libraries. See who is standing out from competition on the Leaderboard.

Control, Adaptive Systems, and Autonomy for Human-Machine Interactions with Dr. Victor Duenas

Friday, September 21st: 2:15pm-3:15pm, LSB 001, Life Sciences Building

Human cyber-physical systems arise when humans interface with autonomous machines during the execution of task as operators, agents, and elements in controlled systems. By the end of this seminar with Dr. Victor Duenas, an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Syracuse University, there will be a better understanding of the initial framework toward a novel and constructive strategy to advance human rehabilitation.

Engineering and Computer Science and School of Information Studies Career Fair

Wednesday, September 26th: 10:00am-2:00pm, Carrier Dome

Come connect with employers and meet with fellow ECS students during one of our biggest career fair opportunities.

Interviewing and Negotiating Skills

Thursday, September 27th: 2:00pm-3:00pm, Shemin Auditorium, Shaffer Art Building

Come learn some of interviewing and negotiating skills with fellow graduate ECS students.

Funding Opportunities

For students:

Fly Your Ideas Competition

(Nov 16) Airbus Fly Your Ideas is a global competition, which challenges students worldwide to innovate for the future of aerospace. For the 2019 competition, the focus is on using the latest digital technologies to create smart solutions for a safer, cleaner and better connected world.

For Faculty:

Computational and Data-Enabled Science and Engineering (CDS

(Oct 15) Advanced computational infrastructure and the ability to perform large-scale simulations and accumulate massive amounts of data have revolutionized scientific and engineering disciplines. The goal of the CDS&E program is to identify and capitalize on opportunities for major scientific and engineering breakthroughs through new computational and data analysis approaches.

Hypersonic Turbulence Models Research (DoD)

(Oct 15) The HVSI funds and performs a range of hypersonic research tasks in support of DoD High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP). HPCMP desires to improve computational simulations of hypersonic vehicles in support of DoD goals by accelerating the successful development of HPC software and hardware.

Industry-University Cooperative Research Centers Program (NSF)

(Oct 17) The Industry-University Cooperative Research Centers (IUCRC) program develops long-term partnerships among industry, academe, and government. An IUCRC contributes to the nation’s research infrastructure base and enhances the intellectual capacity of the engineering and science workforce through the integration of research and education.

Joint DMS/NIGMS Initiative to Support Research at the Interface of the Biological and Mathematical Sciences (NSF/NIH)

(Oct 18) The Division of Mathematical Sciences (DMS) in the Directorate for Mathematical and Physical Sciences (MPS) at NSF and the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) at NIH plan to support fundamental research in mathematics and statistics necessary to answer questions in the biological and biomedical sciences.

Partnership in Basic Plasma Science and Engineering (NSF/DoE)

(Oct 19) Plasma Physics is a study of matter and physical systems whose intrinsic properties are governed by collective interactions of large ensembles of free charged particles. 99.9% of the visible Universe is thought to consist of plasmas. The goal of the initiative is to enhance basic plasma research and education in this broad, multidisciplinary field by coordinating efforts and combining resources of the two agencies.

Windows On the Universe: The Era of Multi-Messenger Astrophysics (NSF)

(Oct 24) WoU-MMA identifies three categories of messengers – electromagnetic waves, high-energy particles including neutrinos and cosmic rays, and gravitational waves. The goals of WoU-MMA are to build the capabilities and accelerate the synergy and interoperability of the three messengers to realize integrated, multi-messenger astrophysical explorations of the Universe.

Novel Mechanism Research on Neuropsychiatric Symptoms (NPS) in Alzheimer’s Dementia (NIH, R21)

(Feb 16) The goal of this FOA is to encourage biomedical, behavioral and social sciences research that will enhance knowledge of mechanisms underlying neuropsychiatric symptoms in persons with Alzheimer’s disease or Alzheimer’s disease-related dementias so as to enable novel treatment development.
